The MK Party is in mourning following the passing of one of its esteemed members, Commander Treasure “Sgetit” Thabede, who was laid to rest today. Remembered as a revolutionary, scholar, and dedicated servant of the people, Thabede’s legacy was honored in a funeral attended by key party leaders, including Secretary General Floyd Shivambu.

The somber yet powerful gathering included the party’s Deputy Secretary General, members of the National High Command, and representatives from the legislature and parliament—reflecting the profound impact Thabede had on both the movement and the nation.

“Today we lay to rest a revolutionary, a scholar, and a fearless servant of the people,” a speaker declared, capturing the sentiment shared by many in attendance.

Thabede was widely respected for his discipline and steadfast dedication to the struggle for justice, particularly in advancing the economic and social liberation of the poor and marginalized. His voice, a constant presence in community meetings and political engagements, inspired countless young activists.

The MK Party leadership affirmed that Thabede’s contributions would endure. A key figure in grassroots mobilization, he lived by the belief that “freedom must be lived, not just declared.”

Shivambu’s presence, alongside other senior leaders, underscored the deep respect Thabede commanded within the party. Their attendance highlighted his pivotal role in shaping the MK Party’s ideology and championing the dignity of the oppressed.

As the MK Party bids farewell to a beloved comrade, it reaffirms its commitment to upholding the values he embodied—courage, integrity, and unwavering service to the people. In the words of a fellow activist, “Though he has passed, his revolutionary spirit lives on in all of us.”
