ANC Suspends Controversial MP Boy Mamabolo Over Social Media Outburst

The African National Congress (ANC) has suspended former MP Boy Mamabolo following a series of inflammatory social media posts targeting a fellow party member. The party condemned his conduct as a violation of its disciplinary code, marking the latest chapter in the outspoken politician’s history of controversy.

Mamabolo, known for his combative style in Parliament, allegedly launched a scathing online attack earlier this week, accusing an unnamed senior ANC official of corruption and moral decay. The posts, laden with expletives, quickly went viral, drawing widespread backlash from party members and the public.

The ANC’s Peter Mokaba Region in Limpopo confirmed his suspension pending a disciplinary hearing. In a statement, the party distanced itself from Mamabolo’s remarks, calling them “in direct conflict with ANC values and a serious breach of discipline.”

Regional spokesperson Keobakile Moswathupa emphasized the party’s stance: *“We are in a critical phase of South Africa’s democracy and cannot allow personal vendettas to undermine the ANC’s integrity. Reckless behavior that damages the party’s image will not be tolerated.”*

Mamabolo has yet to issue a formal response but hinted at political motives in a cryptic post: *“Let the people see who’s afraid of the truth.”*

This is not his first brush with controversy. In 2020, he clashed with EFF leader Julius Malema in Parliament, accusing him of gender-based violence—a claim he later retracted and apologized for.

ANC insiders suggest Mamabolo could face expulsion if found guilty, with the disciplinary committee set to convene within two weeks. The suspension comes as the ANC seeks to project unity ahead of upcoming by-elections amid growing public demand for accountability from elected officials.

Political analysts say the move signals the ANC’s attempt to rein in rogue elements, but Mamabolo’s defiance could further expose internal fractures within the party.
