‘I have beaten Chiefs four times this season’ – Manqoba Mgqithi

Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes his side could have inflicted even greater damage on Kaizer Chiefs after securing a 2-1 victory over Amakhosi on Saturday. The win marked Mngqithi’s third triumph over Chiefs this season, further deepening the Soweto giants’ struggles.

Arrows’ victory at Moses Mabhida Stadium handed Chiefs their 10th league defeat of a dismal campaign, while boosting their own hopes of a top-eight finish. Mngqithi, who previously beat Chiefs twice while in charge of Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this season, insisted the scoreline flattered the visitors.

“I’ve beaten Kaizer Chiefs three times this season,” Mngqithi told Sportswire. “This game could have had a very different scoreline if my players had taken all their chances.”

The result piles more pressure on Chiefs’ interim coach Nasreddine Nabi, who lamented his side’s inability to capitalize on first-half dominance.

“We controlled the first half and should have scored during our strong moments,” Nabi told SABC Sport. “Thabo Cele’s injury disrupted our balance, and though the substitutes helped, conceding an unexpected goal made the comeback difficult.”

Mngqithi’s return to Arrows has brought renewed energy to the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, contrasting sharply with Chiefs’ ongoing woes. With Amakhosi’s season unraveling and Arrows pushing for a strong finish, this latest result only amplifies questions over Chiefs’ direction while reinforcing Mngqithi’s tactical prowess.
