“Try Me Boys”: Duduzile Zuma Sparks Political Debate with Provocative T-Shirt Featuring Malema’s Slogan

Duduzile Zuma, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, has ignited fresh political chatter after being photographed wearing a T-shirt boldly displaying the phrase “Try Me Boys”—a slogan famously used by EFF leader Julius Malema in a defiant social media post last year. The move has raised eyebrows, given the complicated relationship between her father’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The phrase, originally a challenge by Malema to his critics, has become a symbol of political fearlessness among his supporters. Duduzile’s decision to wear it has led to mixed interpretations—some see it as a nod of respect toward Malema’s unyielding stance, while others view it as a subtle jab amid recent tensions between the MK Party and the EFF.

Political analysts are divided on the message behind the fashion statement.

“This could signal an unexpected alignment or simply an appreciation of Malema’s rhetoric,” said political commentator Thando Maeko. “But given the rivalry between MK and the EFF, it’s certainly a provocative choice.”

Malema has previously downplayed the MK Party’s influence, calling it a “non-factor” in South African politics. Duduzile, a vocal defender of her father and critic of the ANC, has frequently used clothing and social media to make political statements. Her latest move keeps her firmly in the spotlight as a polarizing figure in the country’s charged political climate.

While some social media users praised her for “owning the moment,” others questioned whether the shirt hinted at shifting alliances or was merely a calculated power play.

As South Africa heads toward the 2024 elections, even a simple T-shirt has become fuel for debate—proving that in politics, symbolism often speaks louder than words. Duduzile has yet to clarify her intentions, leaving the public to speculate on what her wardrobe choice truly means.
