In a tragic turn of events, prominent businessman Sphamandla Mabonga, known for his past relationship with reality star and singer Londie London, was killed in a shootout outside an upscale nightclub in Sandton. The incident occurred at the famous LIV nightclub at 24 Central, a popular hotspot in Johannesburg’s affluent district.

According to Sunday World, Mabonga was rushed to the hospital after the shooting but later succumbed to his injuries. The altercation reportedly began when a man attempted to enter the nightclub, which enforces a strict no-firearm policy. This led to a violent confrontation between the man’s bodyguards and the nightclub’s security personnel, escalating into a deadly shootout.

The clash resulted in the deaths of two bodyguards at the scene, while five others, including the man involved, two patrons, a Community Police Forum member, and a security guard, were injured and hospitalized. The man responsible for the shooting later died from his injuries.

Initial police investigations revealed that the individual at the center of the incident had a history of violence. He was previously arrested for a similar shooting in Sandton last year. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.

This was not the first time Mabonga had been involved in a violent incident. In January 2024, he was shot in the ribs during a shootout at Tempo nightclub, also in Sandton, and required hospitalization. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly among those in the entertainment and business circles where he was a well-known figure.

The incident has raised concerns about safety and security at high-profile venues in Sandton, as well as the broader issue of gun violence in South Africa. As the investigation unfolds, many are calling for stricter enforcement of firearm regulations and improved security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Mabonga’s death marks a somber moment for his family, friends, and associates, including Londie London, who has yet to publicly comment on the incident. The Sandton community and beyond are left mourning the loss of a man whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
