Businesswoman and reality TV star Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize’s ongoing tax feud with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has taken a toll on her soccer club, Royal AM. A court ruling has mandated the sale of the club to settle a staggering R40 million tax debt owed by Mkhize, casting uncertainty over the future of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) side.

The decision has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with netizens mocking Mkhize and her son, Andile Mpisane, who is also the club’s jersey number 10. Many users targeted the family’s lavish lifestyle, questioning how someone who flaunted luxury cars and wealth on social media could face such financial troubles.

One user, @Sbusiso_Rza, commented, “This whole saga doesn’t make sense. I thought Mamkhize was a multimillionaire. What happened to the money she was flaunting on social media??? They were literally buying luxury cars every 2 months.” Another user, @Luu_Matinjwa, joked, “Lol! Selling chairman is crazy,” while @CKgagudi quipped, “Is Mamajoy also part of the sale?”—referring to the club’s superfan, Mama Joy.

Some social media users offered suggestions for the club’s future. @UnityInSA proposed, “The Sharks Rugby Club should buy them. Keep them in Durban and have a big financial backer. They can also grow both brands.” Meanwhile, @khule7272 advised, “If they were clever, they should have let it play and sell them with PSL status. Now the value of the club is relatively low. Who wants to buy something that has so much uncertainty?”

The sale of Royal AM marks a dramatic fall from grace for Mkhize, who has been a prominent figure in South African business and entertainment. Her tax troubles have not only jeopardized her soccer club but also raised questions about her financial management and the sustainability of her empire.

As the court-ordered sale proceeds, the future of Royal AM remains uncertain. The situation serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of financial mismanagement and the importance of complying with tax obligations. For now, fans and stakeholders await the next chapter in the club’s turbulent journey.
