Former EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has stirred discussion after commending President Cyril Ramaphosa, describing him as the most committed South African head of state to transformative policies.

Taking to X, Ndlozi wrote: “This man is not what we have been told he is. He is truly up to something. Of all SA heads of state, he has emerged as the most dedicated to policies that drive real transformation in people’s lives.”

He cited key legislative efforts, including the National Health Insurance (NHI), the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill, the Expropriation Act, and Ramaphosa’s pro-Palestine stance, as evidence of his progressive approach.

This man is not what we have been told he is. He is truly up to something. Of all SA heads of state, he has come out as the most committed to policies that matter for the most genuine transformation of the living conditions of our people.

– BELA…

Ndlozi also urged the left to reconsider its stance on Ramaphosa, acknowledging his controversial history but emphasizing his distinct political path. “Notwithstanding Marikana and Phala Phala, CR is on a journey few in his position have taken—especially under the constraints of the Government of National Unity (GNU),” he said.

His remarks have drawn mixed reactions. Some view them as a surprising endorsement from a leader who has long criticized the ANC, while others argue that Ramaphosa’s policies remain limited by corporate and political forces.

Challenging the long-standing claim that Ramaphosa serves the interests of white monopoly capital, Ndlozi concluded: “No puppet of white monopoly capitalism speaks and acts like he does! Sela!”

As South Africa’s political landscape shifts under the GNU, Ndlozi’s comments raise questions about potential realignments within the left. Whether this signals broader political shifts remains to be seen.
