Internal DA Rift: Helen Zille Reportedly Leads Push to Oust John Steenhuisen

In a significant development within the Democratic Alliance (DA), sources have revealed growing dissatisfaction with party leader John Steenhuisen’s leadership. A faction within the party, allegedly led by former leader Helen Zille, is reportedly working to remove Steenhuisen from his position.

Insiders have described whispers of strategic meetings and maneuvering aimed at toppling Steenhuisen, with tensions reportedly escalating over time. Despite the absence of an official statement from Zille, her influence within the DA remains considerable. According to sources close to the faction, she is seen as the driving force behind the push for leadership change.

The discontent appears rooted in concerns about Steenhuisen’s leadership style and his ability to unify the party. Critics within the DA argue that the party has struggled to gain traction in key battleground provinces under his tenure, with some traditional supporters feeling alienated by his strategies.

“There is a perception that Steenhuisen’s leadership isn’t advancing the DA’s cause. The party needs someone capable of navigating South Africa’s evolving political landscape,” an insider commented.

Helen Zille, who retains significant support within the party, is viewed by some as the figure capable of revitalizing the DA. While she has refrained from addressing the rumors publicly, her supporters have been vocal in their dissatisfaction with Steenhuisen, particularly over his perceived inability to mount an effective challenge against the African National Congress (ANC) and manage internal divisions.

The DA now faces a critical question: will the factional infighting culminate in a leadership contest? Steenhuisen’s political future remains uncertain, with many party members bracing for potential public fallout.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Zille’s faction will succeed in unseating Steenhuisen or if he will manage to quell the internal rebellion. One thing is clear: the DA’s internal conflict is far from over, and the coming weeks promise heightened political drama.
