After months of public speculation, Queen Ntokozo Mayisela, the first wife of King Misuzulu, has publicly addressed her prolonged absence from significant Zulu royal events, marking her first statement since stepping back from major ceremonies nearly a year ago.

A Personal Choice, Not a Rejection of Duties

Queen Ntokozo explained that her absence was a personal decision, one that the king is fully aware of, rather than a rejection of her duties. She reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the Zulu throne, despite the speculation that had surrounded her absence. “I remain committed to my role as the first queen and to the Zulu nation. My absence is not a rejection of my duties but a personal decision,” she clarified.

Learning About the New Queen Through Social Media

In a candid moment, Queen Ntokozo revealed that she first learned of King Misuzulu’s marriage to Queen Nomzamo Myeni through social media, like many members of the public. She emphasized that she had never met Queen Nomzamo and had not been involved in any discussions about her marriage or lobola (bride price). Despite this, she expressed no objections to polygamy, a tradition practiced within the Zulu royal family.

“I’ve never met the new queen or received any gifts from her. No discussions involving me occurred regarding her marriage or lobola. However, there is no quarrel between us,” said Queen Ntokozo. She also shared that King Misuzulu has another queen living outside South Africa, a fact she has accepted without interference.

Struggles Amid Public Scrutiny

Living under the constant scrutiny of the public eye, Queen Ntokozo acknowledged the toll that negative social media attacks on her character have taken. She urged those spreading rumors to consider that she is not just a public figure, but also a mother. “I have remained silent despite these hurtful accusations, but my silence has been misinterpreted as weakness,” she added.

Royal Life and the Zulu Nation

Queen Ntokozo’s statement sheds light on the personal complexities of royal life, where public perceptions, tradition, and personal choices intertwine. Despite the challenges, she emphasized her ongoing dedication to her royal duties and to the Zulu nation, signaling her desire to continue contributing to the kingdom.

Her absence and subsequent statement reveal the delicate dynamics within the royal family, especially as it grapples with changing relationships and new alliances. The queen’s openness offers insight into the emotional and personal aspects of life within the royal court, where tradition and modernity often collide.

While there has been no official comment from King Misuzulu or his spokesperson regarding Queen Ntokozo’s statement, the public insight she has provided could pave the way for a more nuanced understanding of her position and challenges.
