  • Floyd Shivambu, now Secretary-General of the MK Party (MKP), shared his vision to reshape South African politics after leaving the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
  • Shivambu emphasizes MKP’s focus on economic justice, social equality, and integrity, with plans to connect with citizens disillusioned by other political options.
  • Partnering with MKP leader Jacob Zuma, Shivambu aims to leverage the party’s historical roots to present an alternative, people-centered agenda in the upcoming elections.

Floyd Shivambu, recently appointed Secretary-General of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), is emerging as an influential force in South African politics following his departure from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). His move to the MKP, widely regarded as a strategic realignment, has generated considerable discussion as the party seeks to re-establish itself as a key political contender. In an exclusive interview, Shivambu shared his vision for MKP, outlining his goals and aspirations for both the party and the country.

Reflecting on MKP’s legacy, which began as a resistance movement under the African National Congress (ANC) and evolved into an independent political organization, Shivambu highlighted its focus on economic justice, social equality, and governmental accountability. “MKP is more than a political organization; it’s a voice for justice and integrity,” he remarked, adding that his goal is to reignite these values in today’s political climate.

Since stepping into his new role, Shivambu has collaborated closely with party leader Jacob Zuma, drawing on his EFF experience to bolster MKP’s organizational structure and refine its policies. He believes MKP offers an alternative for South Africans who feel alienated by current political options. “The MK Party provides a fresh perspective, dedicated to inclusivity, empowerment, and a progressive agenda that addresses people’s real needs,” he stated.

Acknowledging the challenges of competing with more established parties, Shivambu expressed confidence in MKP’s potential. “We’re not intimidated by competition,” he said. “MKP’s strength lies in its history and unwavering commitment to the South African people. We are prepared to serve with integrity.”

As South Africa approaches a potentially transformative election period, Shivambu’s leadership in the MKP is expected to shape the party’s trajectory and influence the broader political landscape.
