EFF Member Warns Malema Against Imposing Deputy Choice Amid Branch Tensions

An Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member has recently voiced concerns about potential internal tensions, urging party leader Julius Malema to respect the preferences of party branches regarding the selection of the EFF Deputy President. According to the member, the branches overwhelmingly support Mbuyiseni Ndlozi for the role over Godrich Gardee, the former EFF Secretary-General. This preference comes amidst speculation about leadership decisions, and some worry that imposing Gardee could undermine party unity.

The EFF member’s statement emphasized that Malema should not unilaterally impose his choice, warning that ignoring the branches’ wishes might lead to unrest. The call for respecting grassroots democracy highlights concerns that Malema’s influence, while significant, should not eclipse the collective voices of EFF members. By describing Malema as “not an NPA super delegate,” the member underscored the importance of balancing leadership authority with democratic representation within the party.

The statement also alluded to a potential “war” between Malema’s inner circle and the party’s grassroots supporters if Gardee is appointed despite the branches’ preference for Ndlozi. The strong language indicates an underlying tension, suggesting that bypassing the branches could fracture the party’s unity. This debate raises broader questions about the role of democratic processes within political organizations, as well as the influence of a central leader in respecting the choices of rank-and-file members.

For Malema, supporting Gardee may come with the risk of internal friction, which could affect the EFF’s cohesion and stability. Conversely, aligning with the branches’ choice of Ndlozi could strengthen his connection with grassroots supporters, reaffirming the importance of democratic input within the EFF.

CIC Julius Malema is not an NPA super delegate, he must not dare try to impose Godrich Garde as the EFF Deputy President. We don't want GG, we want Mbuyiseni Ndlozi as branches. Julius and all his deployees must not dare start a war with branches, war is a very difficult thing. pic.twitter.com/lQEWNOv1of
