Floyd Shivambu’s Attendance at MKP Gala Dinner Sparks Speculation of Political Shift

Floyd Shivambu, deputy president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), made a surprise appearance at the MK Party (MKP) Gala Dinner last night, raising questions about his political allegiances. The event, hosted by the MKP—a party closely associated with the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) faction—was attended by several prominent political figures, but Shivambu’s presence stood out and has reignited speculation about his future within the EFF.

Shivambu was seen engaged in conversations with notable figures aligned with the RET faction, including former Prasa CEO Lucky Montana, ex-Eskom head Brian Molefe, and musician-turned-politician Penny Penny, all known supporters of former President Jacob Zuma. His ease and acceptance within the MKP circles have led to increased chatter about a potential shift in political alliances, particularly as internal tensions within the EFF have grown more evident in recent months.

Rumors of a power struggle between Shivambu and EFF secretary-general Marshall Dlamini, who is reportedly positioning himself for greater influence within the party, have further fueled speculation that Shivambu may be considering a break from the EFF. His appearance at the MKP event has prompted many to wonder if he is distancing himself from longtime ally Julius Malema, with whom he has shared a strong political partnership.

As South Africa moves closer to the next elections, Shivambu’s actions and potential realignment could have significant consequences for the EFF and its leadership structure. Whether Shivambu intends to pursue a future with the MKP or remains committed to the EFF, his attendance at the gala has certainly added intrigue to the country’s political landscape.
