Authorities have apprehended three suspects in connection with the tragic massacre of 18 individuals in Lusikisiki that occurred on Wednesday morning.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) South African Police Service (SAPS), confirmed that the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation executed by the Port Shepstone K9 and Public Order Policing units.

According to Netshiunda, police received a tip-off from a community member regarding the suspects’ whereabouts, leading to their capture at a rented accommodation in the Mkholombe informal settlement in Port Shepstone. The suspects, aged 22, 24, and 31, were taken into custody without incident.

The investigation is ongoing, with police teams currently heading to Kokstad in search of a firearm believed to have been used in the massacre. Authorities are committed to uncovering the full extent of this horrific crime and bringing all responsible parties to justice.
