Two suspects linked to the Highflats massacre, which claimed seven lives, have been killed in a gun battle with KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police. The suspects were travelling by car when authorities, who had been following up on leads, attempted to stop them. A shootout ensued, resulting in the deaths of the suspects.
A woman was also found in the vehicle with gunshot wounds, though details of her condition have not been released.
The operation was a coordinated, intelligence-driven effort led by multiple law enforcement units, including the DPCI Provincial Tracking Team, DPCI Anti-Gang Unit, Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Tactical Response Team (TRT), PMB K9, Provincial Forensics Leads Unit, SAPS Crime Intelligence eThekwini District, Metro Police Special Operations Directorate, Fidelity SIU, Hawks Protection Services, and Magma Security & Investigations.
This joint task force was instrumental in tracking down the suspects, bringing a decisive end to their flight following the brutal massacre.
Of the two guns recovered at the scene, one is a State-issued pistol. Another suspect who escaped into the bushes is currently being sought.
