Tension Mount For Floyd Shivambu As EFFSC President Reveals Private Chat Between Them

The ongoing tensions within the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) took a dramatic turn on Friday when Sihle Lonzi, President of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC), publicly shared a heated WhatsApp exchange with former EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu on social media platform X.

The exchange, which quickly went viral, revealed deep-seated disagreements between the student wing and the broader party leadership. Lonzi accused Shivambu of undermining the autonomy and decisions of the EFFSC, a critical structure within the EFF, which represents the interests of students across the country.

In the WhatsApp conversation, Lonzi confronts Shivambu over his alleged interference in EFFSC affairs, particularly around the selection of candidates for upcoming student elections. Lonzi expressed frustration with what he perceived as Shivambu’s attempts to impose decisions on the student wing, arguing that such actions were contrary to the principles of democratic centralism that the EFF prides itself on.

Shivambu, known for his fiery rhetoric and strong influence within the EFF, responded sharply, dismissing Lonzi’s concerns as baseless. He asserted that his involvement was necessary to ensure that the EFFSC aligns with the broader objectives of the party. However, Lonzi stood his ground, emphasizing the need for the EFFSC to make independent decisions without undue influence from senior party members.

The public nature of the exchange has raised concerns about the unity within the EFF, a party that has built its identity on strong, centralized leadership. While internal disagreements are not uncommon in political organizations, the decision by Lonzi to make the conversation public has intensified scrutiny on the party’s internal dynamics.

As the EFF approaches critical elections, the fallout from this incident could have significant implications for the party’s cohesion and its ability to present a united front. The broader EFF leadership has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but the public is closely watching to see how this internal conflict will be resolved.
