Detective Sergeant Tinyiko Jerry Macevele, 33, from Kagiso SAPS, has been arrested on charges of corruption. Allegations suggest that Macevele requested a R1000 bribe from a complainant in exchange for a written statement confirming that the charges against him had been dropped, a document needed by the complainant’s employer.
The complainant initially paid Macevele R500 as a down payment, after being assured that the charges would be formally withdrawn upon payment of the remaining balance. Macevele was apprehended at his workplace after receiving the outstanding R500 from the complainant.
Macevele appeared before the Kagiso Magistrates Court on Thursday, 4 July 2024. The case has been postponed to 11 July 2024 for a formal bail application.
