His Grace, Bishop Dr. Engenas Lekganyane, the spiritual leader of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), extended a gracious welcome to the President of the African National Congress (ANC), Cyril Ramaphosa, continuing a tradition of hospitality dating back to the era of Nelson Mandela. In a ceremony steeped in tradition and reverence, Bishop Lekganyane received President Ramaphosa at the ZCC headquarters, underscoring the enduring relationship between the church and the state. The visit symbolizes the harmonious coexistence and mutual respect between religious and political spheres in South Africa.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, Bishop Lekganyane emphasized the lessons derived from each interaction between the church and state leaders. We continue to be grateful for the lessons we take away from the church with each visit, remarked His Grace, highlighting the spiritual guidance and wisdom imparted during such encounters.

The presence of President Ramaphosa at the ZCC headquarters underscores the importance of unity and collaboration in advancing the collective interests of the nation. As the leader of the ruling party, President Ramaphosa’s visit signifies a commitment to dialogue, understanding, and cooperation with religious institutions like the ZCC, which play a pivotal role in the social fabric of South Africa.

The tradition of welcoming state presidents to the ZCC reflects the church’s integral role in shaping the country’s history and its ongoing contribution to nation-building and reconciliation. From the time of Nelson Mandela to the present day, the ZCC has remained a beacon of hope, promoting peace, tolerance, and inclusivity. As the visit concludes, it serves as a testament to the enduring values of respect, harmony, and unity that define the relationship between the ZCC and the nation’s leadership. With each interaction, both parties reaffirm their commitment to working together for the betterment of South Africa and its people.
