A tavern owner in Nelson Mandela Bay lost his life, and two others were wounded during a shooting incident in Kwazakhele on a Friday evening.

The incident, which unfolded with shocking violence, has left the community reeling and authorities working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

According to Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the shooting occurred around 9:45 pm when gunmen opened fire on a taxi at the intersection of Daku and Salumntu Streets in Kwazakhele.

The targeted attack resulted in the tragic death of Philasande “Coke” Jakavula, a 53-year-old tavern owner who was caught in the crossfire.

As Kwazakhele police conducted patrols in the area, they came across a white Toyota Quantum minibus riddled with bullet holes, signaling the aftermath of the violent shooting.

Upon closer inspection, they discovered a man with fatal gunshot wounds on the driver’s side of the vehicle and a woman lying nearby with gunshot injuries. Another man was also found to have been shot during the incident.

The wounded victims were swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention, their conditions unknown at the time of the report.

The details surrounding the shooting, including the motive behind the targeted attack, remain shrouded in mystery as authorities work to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the tragic incident.

The senseless violence that claimed the life of an innocent tavern owner and left two others injured has sent shockwaves through the Kwazakhele community, prompting a collective call for justice and peace in the wake of the tragedy.

As investigations into the shooting continue, law enforcement officials are diligently pursuing leads to identify and apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.

The loss of Philasande Jakavula and the injuries sustained by the other victims serve as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on individuals, families, and communities.
