Hosea Sono, a renowned figure in South African soccer known as “Weekend Special,” has reached out to the public for assistance as he grapples with the challenges of life after retiring from professional soccer. At 60 years of age, Sono shared his story, shedding light on his financial struggles and the hardships he and his family are facing since he left the world of football.

According to reports from Daily Sun, Hosea Sono, who had a distinguished career in South African football, currently resides near Britz in the North West. His career includes stints with Pretoria Callies and later Bloemfontein Celtic, where he left an indelible mark as a prolific goal-scorer.Sono retired from professional football in 1994, having played for Rustenburg Platinum Mine FC at the time.

He fondly recalled the joyful celebrations of his soccer career by his family, but he now finds himself in dire financial straits. Sono revealed that his most substantial income during his playing days was a modest R650.00, and he selflessly provided all of it to support his loved ones. He emphasized that he enjoyed a fulfilling life, experienced the high life, played football at the highest level, and had a successful investment portfolio.

However, his current circumstances have placed him in a modest four-roomed shack.Sono’s financial challenges began around the year 2000 when his attempts to support local teams didn’t yield the anticipated results. Subsequently, he ventured into the funeral business, but this endeavor faced financial difficulties and eventually collapsed in 2014. Sono expressed the stress he experienced while managing the funeral business, given its poor performance, which led to its closure.
