Tefu, the girlfriend of accused number 3 in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, took the stand today and testified about her relationship with the accused and his movements on the night of the murder. Tefu said she met the accused in December 2014 and they started dating in January 2015. She said they were looking for a place to live together so that she could be closer to her workplace. The accused found a place on Persimmon Street in Malvern and they moved in on January 26, 2015.
Tefu said the accused was not home on the night of the murder, but she received a call from him at around 8pm saying that he was going to a party. She said she did not know where the party was or who he was going with.
The accused returned home at around 3am the next morning and told Tefu that he had been to a pub in Hillbrow. He said he had gotten into a fight with some men and had been shot in the leg. Tefu took him to the hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. The accused was arrested in February 2015 for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. He has denied the charges.
Tefu’s testimony is significant because it provides the first eyewitness account of the accused’s movements on the night of the murder. It also raises questions about why the accused lied to Tefu about where he was going and who he was with.
The trial is continuing and is expected to last for several more months. Tell us what you think about this development. Do you think this ex-girlfriend knew about accused no:3’s occupation?
Tefu: After moving in on the 26th that’s when I started moving my clothes to that place.
Baloyi: Any reason why he moved in in January?
Tefu: There was no particular reason.
Baloyi: Did he pay rent for January?
Tefu: Yes he told me so.#SABCNews #SenzoMeyiwaTrial #SenzoMeyiwa
