On Thursday, the Provincial Organized Crime Narcotics Unit visited a property in Disa Road, Betty’s Bay, where they noticed a strong smell of dagga (marijuana) emanating from inside the house. The members decided to investigate further and entered the premises. Upon searching the property, they made a significant discovery – an indoor dagga laboratory.

Inside, they found a total of 192 dagga plants, 4.3 kilograms of dried dagga, and equipment used for cultivation. The estimated street value of the seized dagga amounts to R574,400. As a result of this operation, a 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested for their involvement in cultivating and dealing in dagga.

The arrested suspects are set to face legal proceedings at the Caledon Magistrates’ Court today. Their charges stem from the cultivation and distribution of dagga, both of which are illegal activities in the region.

This operation reflects the commitment of the Provincial Organized Crime Narcotics Unit in their efforts to combat drug-related activities in the area. By uncovering and dismantling an indoor dagga laboratory, they have disrupted the illicit production and distribution of this controlled substance. Such actions are essential in curbing drug-related crimes and promoting a safer environment for the community.

Authorities aim to continue their vigilance in tackling drug-related offenses and ensuring that those involved in such criminal activities are held accountable for their actions. The seizure of the dagga plants and dried dagga not only eliminates potential harm to the community but also prevents illegal profits from funding further criminal enterprises. As law enforcement continues to monitor and address drug-related issues, they send a clear message that drug cultivation and distribution will not be tolerated, and they remain dedicated to maintaining law and order in the region.
