In the past few seasons the Kaizer Chiefs management has fallen out of favour with the Amakhosi fanbase, following a string of unfavourable results that has seen the team continously fall short of domestic silverware.
After coach Arthur Zwane was appointed as the head coach of the Sowetan Giants, the relationship further degraded due to the suspect transfer approach that the team has deployed. In the recent times…fans have witnessed the team opt for free agents and cheap players, as opposed to the Mamodi Sundowns where the team goes all out to acquire their manager’s top targets and latest talents.
One of their board members and shareholder Jessica Motaung, recently broke her silence on the team’s approach in the transfer market during a radio interview with Robert Marawa and this is what she had to say:
“We know what the fans want, and we understand their desire to win. We ask that they believe in us and trust us. We will do everything possible to get back to the top and back to our winning ways. However, they also need to understand that We are also running a business and it must be profitable” – Jessica Motaung live on 947 FM with Robert Marawa.
Jessica Motaung’s words did not sit well with the fans, as the fans believe that the Motaung family is now putting their financial interests ahead of the wellbeing and success of the club.
“What I have noticed about The Motaung family is that they are running this team like a supermarket whereby behind it they is a selling of cocaine. They are not serious” said one angry fan.
At the rate that Chiefs is currently going, it is on a downhill trajectory and it can only fall deeper and deeper behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, the two teams that relentlessly ensuring that they have quality players; who will contend for the silverware every season
