In a recent announcement, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has revealed that fuel prices will be decreasing for the month of July. The price drop will see petrol prices decrease by 17 to 24 cents per litre, while diesel prices will increase by 12 to 18 cents per litre. Paraffin prices will also decrease by 4 to 5 cents per litre, and LP Gas will see a significant decrease of R2.96 per kilogram. These changes will go into effect starting Wednesday, July 5, 2023.

The decrease in petrol prices will be a relief for consumers who have been grappling with high fuel costs. However, the increase in diesel prices may result in higher prices for consumers in various sectors, including agriculture and manufacturing, due to increased input costs. The news has been met with mixed reactions, as the overall impact on the economy remains uncertain.

To help consumers save on fuel consumption, various tips have been provided. These include sticking to speed limits, avoiding harsh acceleration, maintaining a safe following distance, utilizing momentum when driving uphill, using the air conditioning judiciously, avoiding overloading the vehicle, reducing idling time, and minimizing short trips. By implementing these fuel-saving measures, individuals can potentially reduce their monthly fuel expenses.

It is important for consumers to be aware of these changes and take necessary steps to adjust their budgets accordingly. While the decrease in petrol prices provides some relief, it is crucial to monitor the overall economic impact of the fluctuating fuel prices in the coming months.
