President Cyril Ramaphosa recently attended the 7th District Development Model Presidential Imbizo held at the Oqungweni Sports Field, located in the Alfred Duma Municipality within the uThukela District. The event aimed to foster dialogue, engagement, and collaboration between the government and local communities, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and participatory development.

The District Development Model (DDM) is an innovative approach implemented by the South African government to promote integrated planning and coordination among different spheres of government. It seeks to address socioeconomic challenges and deliver services effectively by bringing together national, provincial, and local government structures in targeted districts.

The event provided an opportunity for community members, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and various government departments to engage in open discussions about their needs, concerns, and aspirations.

During his address, President Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of unity, collaboration, and active citizen participation in driving local development. He highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing pressing issues such as poverty, unemployment, and inequality by implementing targeted interventions that address the specific challenges faced by each district.

He encouraged the community to actively participate in the development process, suggesting that through collaboration and shared responsibility, sustainable solutions can be found.
