In a major breakthrough, the police have apprehended two suspects and successfully retrieved a trailer loaded with copper plates valued at over R6 million in Ekurhuleni.

Authorities received crucial information regarding a truck hijacking incident at De Hoek Toll Plaza in the Free State Province. Without wasting any time, the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team, in collaboration with a private security company, promptly responded and initiated a search for the suspects. Acting on the provided information, the police tracked down two individuals in Katlehong who were in the process of offloading the stolen copper plates from the hijacked trailer. Subsequently, the abandoned truck was located in Heidelberg.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects hijacked the truck and swiftly connected the trailer to their own vehicle before making a hasty escape. The arrested suspects will face charges related to the possession of suspected stolen property and the hijacking of a trailer. Meanwhile, efforts to locate and apprehend any additional suspects involved in the incident are ongoing.

This successful operation highlights the dedication and swift action taken by law enforcement in combating crime and recovering stolen assets. The recovered copper plates, with an estimated value exceeding R6 million, serve as a significant blow to criminal activities in the region. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community, and they urge anyone with further information related to this case or other criminal activities to come forward and assist in their investigations.
