The ANC has expelled its former secretary-general Ace Magashule from the party due to misconduct. The party’s disciplinary committee found him guilty and gave him seven days to make submissions as to why he should not be expelled.
However, he failed to do so, leading to his expulsion. The news of Magashule’s expulsion was confirmed by the ANC in a statement released on Monday afternoon. This decision marks a significant development in the ongoing power struggle within the party, as Magashule was a prominent figure and a staunch supporter of former president Jacob Zuma.

Taking to Twitter, the current ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, confirmed the expulsion of Magashule in a tweet.
In 2021, Magashule unilaterally attempted to suspend president Cyril Ramaphosa and subsequently refused to apologize to the party’s president and its structures. He was suspended from the ANC in the same year following corruption charges.
He was then forced to step aside in line with the ANC’s new rules for those facing corruption and other serious charges.
His expulsion comes after the ANC national disciplinary committee found him guilty of contravening the ANC constitution by failing to withdraw and apologize for his decision to suspend the president from the ruling party. According to the ANC, the disciplinary committee met to deliberate on charges preferred against Magashule.
