The family of slain soccer star Senzo Meyiwa attended singer Zandi Khumalo’s testimony at the high court in Pretoria last week. The late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper’s brother Sifiso Meyiwa told the reports that his family are looking forward to the day the Khumalo family takes the witness stand.

The Meyiwa family has stated that there are inconsistencies in Zandi’s testimony regarding the murder of Senzo. Sifiso, a member of the Meyiwa family, has accused Zandi of lying and getting caught up in her own web of deceit.

“We’ve also noted the inconsistencies in her statements and that makes us happy”. Sifiso said

He continued: “Her version of events keep changing, depending on the platform she’s addressing. In her media interviews, she maintained that she cannot identify the killers but in court she suddenly pointed out Senzo’s killer. Obviously, one of these versions or both versions are not true. She is gradually proving to be an untrustworthy witness”. Sifiso added.

On the 15th May 2023, Zandi was accused of engaging in delaying tactics after she requested total media silence when she sat on the witness stand during her trial, fearing she would be the subject of ridiculous and careful scrutiny. The Meyiwa family said they had wrote a letter and asked disbarred advocate Teffo Malesela to present it to the court, however, he was not given the opportunity to apply to the court.

“Fortunately, the decision favoured us. However, we still have serious concerns about the judge who is presiding over this case. We are scared that a miscarriage of justice might take place”. Sifiso said. On Thursday, the judge ruled that the state witness can be recorded by means of audio while giving her testimony. However, she may not be recorded via visuals by the media.
