We are back in the Pretoria High Court for the #SenzoMeyiwaTrial. Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela have hand down a ruling on the live broadcast of the next witness’ testimony. Witness in #SenzoMeyiwatrial loses bid to bar the audio broadcast of her testimony in the Pretoria High court. Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela has ruled in favour of the media.

Judge Maumela says to this day he does not know what threat the witness faces. He says forbidding the broadcast of her voice will not be of any benefit. Maumela says there is no demand for the beaming of her face.

He said that the witness has participared on social media on this case, in so doing she placed her face out there which prompted public scrutiny in which she now claims to be harbouring apprehension

Maumela: “There has to be a firm understanding that the case is about the murder of Senzo Meyiwa and by extension relatives, supporters and those who held him dear”.

Conduct on the part of witness #1 on social media seems to contend that she is not media shy however the realities that come with the magnitude of this case and the emotion it provokes ought to be taken into consideration.

Like any citizen, witness #1 has an equal right to be heard before any court of law. It will not be correct to fault her for having made a request in the way that she did. It became wise of her to communicate.
