Sibanyoni Draws a Line Under Mashego Link, Denies Knowing Anything About Sindane Dealings

In an interview with the Madlanga Commission, businessman and taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni denied knowing or being associated with Mashego Andrew Benjamin, who is accused of having ties with Bafana Sindane.

On Monday, 21 September 2026, following his testimony in August, Sibanyoni made a triumphant return to the commission in Pretoria for cross-examination. His arrival coincides with the ongoing investigation into claims of organised crime, police corruption, and criminal networks in the taxi sector.

As part of his evidence, Sibanyoni denied any connection to anybody who were accused of wrongdoing. Similarly, he took a firm stance against Mashego, denying any involvement and challenging claims that he knew about Sindane’s business transactions.

This new information is noteworthy because it compares Sibanyoni’s proof to claims that have already been presented before the commission. An alleged gang of businesspeople sometimes called the “Big Five” was earlier accused by suspended SAPS Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, who had previously implicated Sibanyoni. The claim that Sibanyoni was a member of such a criminal ring is one that he denies.

Instead, the cab CEO has painted himself as a victim of potentially deadly business conflicts. He had previously testified that he had informed authorities of his worries over criminal activity in the cab business and that he had survived two assassination attempts.

With Sibanyoni back on the stand, those in charge of the evidence can cast doubt on his story and demand answers about his purported ties to individuals whose identities have come to light as a result of the commission’s thorough inquiry.

The evidence provided during the hearings does not, in and of itself, establish conclusions of guilt against individuals, as the panel has underlined on multiple occasions. Criminal matters involving accused persons must be resolved through the proper legal channels, while allegations must be tested.

The fresh testimony furthers the commission’s investigation into the suspected connections between South Africa’s criminal and taxi networks; Sibanyoni has long insisted that he has no business being linked with Mashego or any transactions involving Sindane.

The commission is trying to determine which claims have evidence and which are denied by the individuals listed, so his testimony will likely be examined further during cross-examination.
