South African activist Nkosikhona Phakel’umthakathi Ndabandaba has revealed that he has been living under constant death threats, saying the intimidation against him has reached a point where he fears for his life every day. The outspoken activist shared his ordeal publicly, claiming that anonymous individuals have repeatedly contacted him with chilling warnings, leaving him in a state of constant vigilance.
According to Phakel’umthakathi, the threats have become more frequent as his public profile has grown through his activism and outspoken views on issues such as illegal immigration, crime, and community safety. He said some callers have delivered direct and disturbing messages, including one that allegedly told him, “Today is your last day alive, and we know exactly where you are.” He described the repeated threats as emotionally exhausting, saying they have taken a significant psychological toll.
Despite the danger, Phakel’umthakathi insists he will not be intimidated into silence. He maintains that his activism is driven by a commitment to addressing issues he believes affect ordinary South Africans and says those attempting to frighten him will not deter him from speaking out.
The activist admitted, however, that the threats have forced him to change the way he lives. He now carefully plans his movements, remains constantly alert, and takes additional precautions to protect himself. He also expressed concern about the impact on his loved ones, saying they worry each time he leaves home because of the uncertainty surrounding his safety.
His revelations have reignited concerns over the safety of activists and public figures in South Africa, where individuals involved in political and social advocacy have frequently reported intimidation, harassment, and threats linked to their work.
Supporters have called on law enforcement authorities to investigate the alleged threats thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice. They argue that regardless of differing political or ideological views, intimidation and violence have no place in a democratic society. Meanwhile, Phakel’umthakathi remains steadfast, declaring that fear will not stop him from continuing his activism or standing by his convictions.
