MK Party Caucus Meeting Sparks Internal Storm After Busisiwe Mkhwebane Was Ousted in Bold Move

After Busisiwe Mkhwebane, a former Public Protector and senior caucus member, was reportedly excluded from the session, a virtual caucus meeting held by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party in Mpumalanga has sparked a new wave of internal tensions. This is a development that is now being interpreted by those who are inside the party as a sign of deepening fractures within the party’s provincial structures.

It has been stated that the meeting, which took place on Tuesday of last week and was organised by the Mpumalanga legislature caucus of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party in Mpumalanga, took place without Mkhwebane getting an invitation or any previous notification. In light of the fact that she is a senior member of the caucus and a major political figure, the situation has been described as “highly irregular” by multiple sources within the party.

In place of what was supposed to be a regular conversation on legislative coordination and internal caucus planning, claims of exclusion, procedural breakdowns, and quiet power struggles have been brought up instead. The absence of one of the caucus’s most known personalities, according to those with knowledge of the situation, quickly redirected focus away from the agenda of the meeting and into the circumstances of her absence.

Several conflicting interpretations of what took place among party members began to circulate within a few hours of the meeting and continued to do so. It has been suggested in one version that the exclusion may have been the result of administrative miscommunication that was associated with virtual scheduling systems. However, another report, which is more politically charged, asserts that certain groups within the caucus purposefully made sure that Mkhwebane was not included in the discussion.

According to some who are close to Mkhwebane, the new development has caused them a great deal of unease. They have interpreted it as a part of an ongoing effort to reduce her power within the provincial caucus. In their argument, they believe that the episode cannot be regarded in isolation and instead alludes to a larger environment of mistrust and factional positioning inside the Mpumalanga structure of the party.

Taking into consideration Mkhwebane’s political profile, the situation is very delicate. Her transition into the MK Party was widely seen as a significant political shift that brought both visibility and controversy into the ranks of the party. She had previously served as the Public Protector, and she had become a pivotal character in a number of constitutional and political debates when she joined the MK Party.

Within the caucus, there is a growing demand for clarity regarding the matter of how the meeting was called together, who gave their approval to the list of participants, and whether or not the norms for internal communication were adhered to correctly. It has been claimed that certain members are requesting formal internal mechanisms to investigate the issue, and they are warning that if any action is not taken to address it, trust might be further damaged.

The leadership of the MK Party has not yet issued a public statement on the problem; nevertheless, sources indicate that the matter is already being discussed within the party, and there are already discussions taking place regarding how to handle the ramifications for the situation. As the party continues to negotiate its shifting internal structure, the episode has brought to light latent conflicts that have the potential to impact future power relations within the Mpumalanga assembly caucus.
