Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, has come out strongly in defence of former MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela after his sudden removal, describing him as a “sacrificial lamb” in a comment that has further fuelled tensions within the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
Reacting shortly after reports of his dismissal surfaced, Zuma-Sambudla posted: “The Sacrificial Lamb… History Will Absolve You Nhlamulo Ndhlela,” a statement that has since triggered wide political debate. Many supporters interpreted her words as evidence of growing internal friction within the party founded by Jacob Zuma.
Ndhlela’s exit as national spokesperson forms part of a broader reshuffle in MK Party leadership structures. His position has reportedly been taken over by former The Star editor Sifiso Mahlangu, in a move analysts believe is aimed at reshaping the party’s communication strategy ahead of key political engagements.
Although the MK Party has not clearly explained the reasons for his removal, the decision has divided opinion. Some see it as an effort to strengthen discipline and refine the party’s public messaging, while others believe it points to deeper internal disagreements.
Zuma-Sambudla’s response added a more emotional and symbolic dimension to the situation, suggesting that Ndhlela may have been unfairly blamed for wider internal issues. Her remarks were also seen as an indication of loyalty to the former spokesperson, highlighting possible factional lines within the organisation.
Ndhlela had been one of the most visible figures in the MK Party during its rapid rise, often representing the party in media engagements and playing a key role in shaping its public communication during a politically sensitive period.
Political analysts warn that the development could affect perceptions of unity within the MK Party at a time when it is trying to solidify its position in South African politics. While the party continues to grow in influence, internal disputes risk drawing attention away from its broader political goals.
As discussions continue across political spaces and social media, speculation is growing over whether Ndhlela will remain within the party or move in a different direction politically.
For now, Zuma-Sambudla’s statement has ensured that his removal remains a major talking point in national politics.
