To this day, the authorities have not announced the particular accusations that may be brought against the grandmother; nevertheless, investigators have stated that the arrest is a part of their efforts to determine what happened to the youngster.
This shocking turn of events takes place just one week after the grandmother made public statements about the case in an interview with Eyewitness News. In that interview, she denied any involvement in the disappearance of she and her granddaughter.
She expressed emotional concern for Omphile’s safety and pleaded for the toddler’s safe return at the time, and she emphasised that she would never hurt the child that she had assisted in raising.
According to reports, she stated during the interview, “I would never hurt a child I raised,” and she also mentioned that the family was in a state of dire need of answers.
The disappearance of Omphile prompted significant concern throughout the province of Limpopo, with community members, campaigners, and law enforcement agencies joining forces to hunt for the youngster who had gone missing during the absence. Additionally, as concerns for the child’s welfare became more intense, social media campaigns that demanded information about the toddler’s whereabouts gained steam throughout the internet.
The police have not disclosed any information regarding the inquiry, citing the sensitive nature of the subject as the reason for their silence. Officials, on the other hand, have hinted that additional arrests may be made as officers continue to collect evidence and conduct interviews with persons who are connected to the investigation.
Many members of the community are having a difficult time coming to grips with the most recent events, and their reactions to the arrest of the grandmother have been characterised by astonishment. There were some residents who described the situation as being extremely distressing, particularly in light of the grandmother’s earlier public statements in which she denied any wrongdoing.
In addition, organisations that work to protect children have urged the general public to refrain from engaging in speculation that could jeopardise the investigation and have requested that they be patient while the investigators finish their work.
While this is going on, the authorities are continuing their search for Omphile Sithole and are requesting that anyone who may have information about the child’s whereabouts come forward.
