The killing of Marius Van Der Merwe — widely known as Witness D in the high-profile Madlanga Commission — sent shockwaves across South Africa when news of his death first broke. For weeks, questions swirled around the mysterious circumstances of the murder. Many feared the killer had vanished without a trace. But according to police, one critical mistake may have led investigators straight to the man they believe pulled the trigger.

Authorities confirmed this week that a suspect linked to the killing has been arrested in Johannesburg. The development marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has been under intense public scrutiny. Van Der Merwe’s death raised serious concerns because of his connection to the Madlanga Commission, where sensitive testimonies and allegations have been unfolding.
