The ANC’s Johannesburg Regional Executive Committee voted Saturday to recall Executive Mayor Dada Morero, citing his alleged use of state resources to undermine the party’s new regional leadership under Loyiso Masuku.
Tensions stem from Morero’s loss of the regional chairperson role at a December 2025 conference, followed by his challenges to the results and recent court actions by his advisor.
REC members say coexistence is impossible ahead of local elections, as the city faces water shortages, power outages, and service protests. National ANC leaders must now decide if the recall proceeds, potentially elevating Masuku but risking coalition instability.
