Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and former party spokesperson Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi are said to have settled their dispute, opening the door for Ndlozi’s possible return to the party under a new leadership setup.
According to sources familiar with the talks, the breakthrough comes after several weeks of quiet negotiations aimed at rebuilding unity within the EFF’s top leadership. The reported agreement includes Ndlozi rejoining the party on the condition that he takes up the role of Second Deputy President, a change that would significantly alter the current leadership structure.
The rift between Malema and Ndlozi had sparked widespread speculation about internal tensions, especially after Ndlozi withdrew from active party duties. His absence was seen as a major loss, given his status as a founding member and a key intellectual and communication figure who helped define the EFF’s ideology.
Insiders describe the reconciliation as a strategic move rather than simply a personal settlement, with both leaders acknowledging the importance of unity ahead of crucial political challenges. The EFF has been under pressure to remain cohesive as it faces elections, shifting political alliances and increasing competition within the opposition space.
Should the deal go ahead, Ndlozi’s appointment would officially reinstate him in the party’s highest decision-making structures and reflect Malema’s intent to strengthen leadership by bringing back influential voices. Supporters believe his return could enhance the party’s intellectual influence, public communication and performance in Parliament.
However, the proposal may also stir controversy. Some party members are expected to raise concerns about how the new role affects existing leadership positions and whether it aligns with internal democratic procedures. Analysts note that the EFF’s constitution and governance processes could come under close examination if the arrangement is implemented.
So far, neither Malema nor Ndlozi has publicly confirmed the details, and the EFF has not released an official statement. Even so, the news has already generated strong debate, with political observers suggesting it could represent a major shift for the party.
As the EFF heads into upcoming political battles, the reconciliation between two of its most influential figures could play a key role in reshaping its future direction and restoring internal cohesion.
