The man, who owned a scrapyard in the Springs CBD, Ekurhuleni, was reportedly murdered by two assailants on Thursday, 22 January. While the reason for the murder remains unclear, a group of sex workers informed Daily Sun that the businessman was accompanied by an unidentified sex worker on the night of his death.

It was claimed that the businessman had paid the sex worker for her services, but as they were in the car, hijackers attacked and shot him, causing the woman to escape. Tragically, the businessman did not survive his injuries. Allegedly, the hijackers made off with the car.

Speaking to Daily Sun, the sex workers expressed that they did not know the woman who was with the businessman when he was killed. “We are questioning why he died while she was with him. We have been working with him for many years without issue,” they remarked. The sex workers are demanding answers from the woman and want her to disclose who sent her.

“She should be investigated. We have suspicions about her involvement. He was our loyal customer,” they expressed. They stated that they had known the businessman for over a decade. “He was a kind and generous man. He would stop by 12th Street to greet us and give us money even without any services rendered. He treated us with dignity,” they shared. The sex workers mentioned their desire to attend the businessman’s funeral to pay their respects.

“I have been crying since I heard he was killed. You can see that my eyes are red. We want justice for him and for his vehicle to be recovered. Every time I see a Mahindra bakkie passing by, I am filled with tears,” one of the sex workers said. According to the Springs police, the vehicle has not been located, and they are actively searching for it.

Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Nelda Sekgobela stated that when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a white man with a gunshot wound. “Paramedics attended to the victim but pronounced him dead at the scene. The suspects escaped in the victim’s vehicle,” she noted.

Sekgobela confirmed that the stolen Mahindra bakkie is still unaccounted for.
