President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed recent speculation surrounding his international engagements, making clear his priorities remain focused on domestic governance and party commitments.

Speaking at a media briefing earlier today, Ramaphosa responded to reports linking him to a proposed “Board of Directors for Peace” initiated by former U.S. President Donald Trump. “I have not been invited by President Donald Trump about this board of directors for peace, so… me, I’m not even looking at my inbox. I’ve not been invited, so I’m happy to be here,” Ramaphosa said, emphasizing that his attention is firmly on South Africa’s political and economic agenda.

The President also explained his absence from this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “I didn’t go to Davos because we are preparing for the ANC Lekgotla, the Cabinet Lekgotla and SONA,” he noted, referring to the upcoming African National Congress strategy sessions, the Cabinet planning meeting, and the State of the Nation Address.

Political analysts have interpreted Ramaphosa’s remarks as a reaffirmation of his commitment to internal party structures and national priorities amid growing international engagements and global attention on South Africa. By prioritizing local governance over high-profile international events, Ramaphosa appears intent on signaling that domestic stability and policy planning take precedence over foreign boards or summits.

Observers say this approach reflects a strategic balancing act, allowing the President to maintain global visibility while reinforcing his leadership within the ANC and government structures ahead of critical policy announcements.
