The African National Congress (ANC) celebrates its 114th anniversary today, as the party reflects on its legacy and current challenges, including its first loss of a parliamentary majority in 2024.
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is in Rustenburg for anniversary events this weekend. The party, which now governs in a coalition, remains the largest in Parliament despite securing just over 40% of the national vote in last year’s election.
ANC Treasurer-General Dr. Gwen Ramokgopa said the milestone is an opportunity to reflect on both achievements and shortcomings, while addressing external and internal challenges.
The celebrations come amid ongoing public scrutiny over service delivery and corruption, factors widely seen as contributing to the party’s electoral decline.
