International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says South Africa will not stay silent to appease the United States, following its condemnation of the U.S. invasion of Venezuela.

The department has described the military action and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as illegal. Lamola, speaking in Rustenburg, emphasized that South Africa must stand on principle and support international law, despite strained diplomatic relations with Washington.

Ties between the two nations have deteriorated, partly due to unfounded U.S. allegations of a “white genocide” in South Africa. Lamola argued that international solidarity and rules-based order have ensured global stability since World War II and should not be abandoned.

The White House has issued warnings to other countries, including Cuba and Colombia, suggesting they could face similar action.
