Following explosive allegations by former police officer and controversial figure Thabo Sibiya, political tensions within the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party have intensified. Sibiya accused MK Party Member of Parliament David Skosana of collaborating with KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to have him imprisoned.
Speaking during a live broadcast on Saturday night, Sibiya asserted that Skosana and Mkhwanazi were “collaborating” to create allegations that were intended to silence him for disclosing alleged corruption and internal betrayals within the MK Party. “I have evidence that David Skosana and Mkhwanazi are conspiring against me.” Sibiya claimed, “They desire to see me incarcerated because I refuse to participate in their corrupt political games.”
He accused the duo of conducting a slander campaign with the intention of sullying his reputation as a whistleblower and discrediting his name. “The truth is a source of fear for these individuals.” They are aware that the termination of numerous careers will occur once I disclose all information. Therefore, the strategy is straightforward: “Send Sibiya to prison,” he stated.
The allegations are made in the context of increasing discord within the MK Party, as rival factions compete for influence in the wake of recent controversies involving senior members. The party’s already fragile unity could be further destabilised by the dispute, according to insiders.
David Skosana has since denied Sibiya’s allegations, stating that he is not involved in any criminal conspiracy and that they are “malicious and baseless.” “I categorically refute these accusations.” In a statement issued on Sunday, Skosana stated, “Mr. Sibiya is in dire need of attention and is attempting to revive his dwindling relevance by utilising my name.”
Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi also denied the allegations, describing them as “defamatory and nonsensical.” He confirmed that Sibiya was under investigation for unrelated matters, but he maintained that the proper process was being followed. “Sibiya is not being pursued by anyone.” Mkhwanazi declared that the law operates without regard for political affiliations.
Sibiya’s outburst, according to political analysts, is indicative of the increasing paranoia that is present within the MK Party. “What we are witnessing is a conflict over control and credibility within the MK movement.” Dr. Nompumelelo Dlamini, a political science lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, stated that allegations such as these are indicative of more profound internal fractures.
The MK Party leadership has not yet released an official statement concerning the accusations; however, sources indicate that the party may initiate an internal investigation in order to mitigate the consequences.
The scandal has the potential to further weaken the relationship between the MK Party and law enforcement, as well as to tarnish the party’s reputation in anticipation of the upcoming parliamentary session, as the feud escalates.
