Flora Makena, popularly known as Mahlalentabeni, a star of Moja Love’s reality show “Umndeni,” has died.
The news was confirmed by her family on Thursday, though they declined to disclose the cause of death. A suicide note, dated December 24 and circulating on social media, alleges she was being bullied and not paid for her work. The family has not verified the note’s authenticity.
Makena was known for her outspoken role on the show, which explores polygamous relationships within a traditional healer’s family. She was a senior wife on the program before her storyline changed.
This is the second death of a cast member from “Umndeni” following the passing of Ongeziwe “Malwandle” Madonsela in 2022.
Tributes from fans have poured in online. Moja Love has not yet issued a statement.
