South Africans are reacting strongly after Kallie Kriel confirmed that authorities in South Africa raided a US refugee facility in Johannesburg. US staff were detained, and applicants who were there said they faced harassment, even though they had not broken any laws.
The raid involved people processing Afrikaner refugees. Some South Africans reacted sharply to Kriel’s statement. Many called out his claims, saying, “Stop spreading lies,” and described the report as another one of his false claims. They said he was exaggerating what happened and misleading the public.
Afriforum, led by Kriel, condemned the authorities’ actions. The group said the behaviour showed little care for human rights. They also pointed out that the government still does not clearly condemn people who call for violence against Afrikaners through the “Kill the Boer” chant.
Others argued that the government was acting according to the law, saying foreign nationals working without proper papers were not allowed. Officials confirmed that some people were detained for working without visas and were issued deportation orders.
The raid has sparked widespread debate in South Africa. Citizens are divided between those who believe Kriel and those who think he is misleading the public. Many are calling for calm and proper investigation before making judgments.
