The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) says leadership changes within its ranks are unavoidable due to the party’s rapid formation before the 2024 elections.
Reflecting on the party’s second anniversary, MKP Head of the Presidency Magasela Mzobe told SABC News that the organization had to be built “backwards.” He explained that with the party announced just months before the polls, there was no time for a traditional structure—leading to most senior cadres being deployed directly into Parliament.
Mzobe stated that nearly all of the party’s MPs are new to formal politics, while the party carries the significant responsibility of being the official opposition. This situation makes internal evolution and leadership adjustments inevitable as the party matures.
