Ndlozi Slams ANC’s Attempt to “Renew” Mchunu, Accuses Minister of Betraying Revolutionary Values

Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has ignited a fresh wave of political debate after launching a strong critique against the African National Congress (ANC) and Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu. In a sharply worded social media post, Ndlozi argued that the ANC’s efforts toward “organizational renewal” are futile when led by figures he believes have strayed from the revolutionary values that once grounded the liberation movement.

According to Ndlozi, discussions about rebuilding the ANC lack sincerity when leaders such as Mchunu demonstrate behaviour that erodes public trust. He questioned how a party can claim to guide ethical change while senior officials continue to enjoy what he describes as excessive privileges. Ndlozi argued that no amount of political education or ideological training can reform leaders who, in his view, willingly abandon the principles of humility and service.

The remarks were sparked by Mchunu’s recent appearance at a commission of inquiry, where he reportedly arrived in a convoy of blue-light vehicles accompanied by state-funded bodyguards. For Ndlozi, this display symbolized a deep disconnect between government officials and ordinary South Africans, many of whom face severe economic hardship. He suggested that such conduct reflects a leadership class insulated by comfort and detached from the struggles of the people they are mandated to represent.

Ndlozi accused Mchunu of taking the public’s trust for granted, writing that the minister “insults the intelligence of the very nation that affords him this comfort.” He argued that these actions betray the foundational principles of the liberation movement, which emphasized responsible leadership and accountability. Ndlozi’s comments add pressure to the ongoing internal debates within the ANC regarding credibility, ethical governance, and its ability to restore confidence among citizens as dissatisfaction with leadership grows.
