Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that left-back Khuliso Mudau will not be offered a contract extension, with the 29-year-old set to leave the club when his current deal expires in June 2026.

The announcement marks the end of Mudau’s four-year stint at Chloorkop, where he joined from Polokwane City in 2022. During his time at Sundowns, Mudau made over 100 appearances across all competitions, contributing both defensively and offensively as the team secured domestic silverware, including the 2023–24 Premier Soccer League title and the MTN 8 trophy.

Club officials cited a strategic restructuring of the squad and the need to introduce fresh talent as key factors in the decision not to renew Mudau’s contract. “Khuliso has been a dedicated professional and a loyal servant to Sundowns. His contributions on and off the pitch have been invaluable,” said a club statement. “However, the club is looking to refresh certain positions and provide opportunities for emerging talent within our ranks.”

Mudau, known for his pace, defensive solidity, and ability to contribute to attacking plays, expressed mixed emotions regarding the decision. “It’s never easy to leave a club where you’ve grown and shared so many special moments,” he said. “I’m grateful to the fans, the coaching staff, and my teammates for their support throughout my time here. I’ll continue to give my best until my final game at Chloorkop and look forward to the next chapter in my career.”

The departure of Mudau opens the door for younger prospects in the Sundowns academy, as well as potential new signings, to compete for the left-back position. Analysts note that Sundowns’ proactive approach in rotating key positions has been a hallmark of their sustained success in the PSL and continental competitions.

As news of Mudau’s exit spreads, speculation is already mounting about his next destination. Several local PSL clubs, including Cape Town City, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs, are reportedly monitoring his availability, while international clubs have also been linked with potential interest.

Fans and commentators alike have praised Mudau’s professionalism, consistency, and work ethic, highlighting his ability to maintain high performance levels even amid intense competition within the squad. His departure will leave a noticeable gap in Sundowns’ defensive lineup, but the club remains confident in its long-term vision and succession planning.
