The agent for Orlando Pirates star Mbekezeli Mbokazi has revealed that a low transfer offer from a European club was rejected before the player’s move to the USA was finalized.
Mbokazi, 20, is set to join Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire in January for a reported fee of around R52 million.
His agent, Basia Michaels, stated that an unnamed European club submitted an offer of just €150,000 (roughly R2.9 million), which she called “a slap in the face.” Michaels suggested the club was unwilling to pay more for an African player.
The young midfielder, known as “TLB,” will leave Orlando Pirates after playing 37 senior matches for the club. He is expected to feature for Pirates one last time in this weekend’s Carling Knockout final against Marumo Gallants.
