Ukhozi FM drops top 10 list for 2025 Song of the Year as voting officially opens

Ukhozi FM has finally revealed the ten songs competing for its highly coveted 2025 Song of the Year title, and the lineup has the country buzzing.

The announcement was made on Monday, 1 December 2025, by presenter Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe during his live afternoon show at Mojo’s Carwash & Shisanyama in Chesterville.

This year, the radio giant introduced a revamped voting system to minimize drama and ensure a fairer process.

Instead of nominating freely, listeners were asked to choose their top ten tracks from a curated list of 20, with the final tally determining the official contenders.

The station has long faced criticism over its previous format, and the update is meant to make the competition more transparent.

The 2025 list is heavily stacked with the 3-step powerhouses Jazzworx and Thukuthela, who have dominated the airwaves with multiple hits.

Their smash single with Ciza, Isaka (6 AM), and their MaWhoo-assisted banger Bengicela have kept them on repeat nationwide.

The duo appears three times in the top ten, solidifying their stronghold on this year’s charts.

Zee Nxumalo follows closely behind with two songs in the running: her fan-favourite Mamma and Mali, a collaboration with Dlala Thukzin.

The only Maskandi song in the race is Umafikizolo’s Uyoncengwa Unyoko, representing the genre in a list otherwise dominated by 3-step and amapiano-infused hits.

Other tracks competing for the crown include Shela by Sam Deep, Nia Pearl, Boohle and Mano; Sjava’s Uyena; Professor and Larny’s Order; and Awungazi from DJ Tira, Pcee, Campmasters and General C’Mamane.

In an exciting twist, the artist behind the winning song will walk away with a brand-new VW Polo.

Voting is officially open, and fans can support their favourite by sending an SMS to 32253. The winning track will be revealed during the New Year’s crossover as listeners celebrate the arrival of 2026.
