Former minister Malusi Gigaba has stated he will remain with the African National Congress despite stepping aside from party activities due to corruption charges. Gigaba, who appeared in court this week on fraud charges related to Transnet’s locomotive procurement, said his political home remains the ANC and he has no intention of joining the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
The charges allege he unduly benefited from relationships with the Gupta family through undisclosed cash payments. Gigaba maintains his innocence and describes his decision to step aside as a disciplined move to comply with ANC rules while he addresses his legal challenges.
Political analysts suggest Gigaba’s future within the ANC appears uncertain as his case progresses through the courts.
