Brown Mogotsi’s testimony at the Madlanga Commission offered a sobering glimpse into the fear, uncertainty, and danger he says surrounded him long before he reached the witness stand. Speaking in a calm but emotionally charged tone, he described how his life was nearly taken in Vosloorus, an experience that left him shaken and confused about why anyone would want to attack him before he had even delivered his version of events.
“I was very much disturbed when my life was attempted in Vosloorus before I could even give a statement because people thought I’m a superman I’m trying to lie that I was moving like this inside in the riddle of bullets,” Mogotsi recounted. His words painted a picture of a man caught in a moment of chaos, trying to survive while facing accusations that he was exaggerating the danger he experienced.
He went on to explain how the attack unfolded. According to his testimony, he had believed the people trailing him had eventually lost track of his movements. But that sense of relief turned out to be temporary. “It was by luck, I don’t know what happened it was only one shot because those people followed me for so long I thought they could not find me, when they saw my car they fired a shot,” he told the commission.
The incident, as Mogotsi described it, was not just an attempt on his life but a clear attempt to intimidate him. He suggested that the timing of the attack — just before he was expected to provide crucial information — was no coincidence. The experience left him battling both fear and disbelief, unsure how he survived but certain that the danger was real.
His testimony adds another layer to the complex web of allegations and pressures surrounding the Madlanga Commission. For Mogotsi, the near-fatal encounter in Vosloorus remains a defining moment, one that shaped the courage it took to come forward.
By recounting these details openly, he highlighted the risks faced by individuals who choose to testify in high-stakes inquiries — risks that many would never imagine extend beyond the hearing room itself.
